(Ahmedabad ) In the Indian state of Gujarat, a doctor who came to remove a kidney stone removed the kidney instead of the stone, which caused his death. The Gujarat Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has ordered the hospital to pay Rs 11 lakh as compensation to the family of the deceased.

According to India Today, Devinder Bhai Rawal was admitted to a hospital in Mahi Sagar district in 2011 for a kidney stone operation. He had kidney problems after which he contacted a doctor at KMG General Hospital who told him that he had a 15 mm stone in his left kidney which would require surgery to remove it. The doctor removed the patient's kidney instead of a stone during the operation, after which he died on January 8, 2012 after a few months of life and death struggle.

Against the negligence of the doctor, the patient's family approached the Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, which ruled nine years later that the hospital management should pay compensation of Rs. 1,123,000 to the patient's family.
